Ortovox has used innovative materials with modern production processes and carefully have considered adding notches to the shovel blade to create a lightweight avalanche shovel, weighing only 440 g this is one of the lightest shovels on the market.

For the shaft of the shovel, Ortovox has used a high quality 7075 T6 aluminium that is both very light and extremely strong. Thanks to the telescopic, rapid-closure shaft, this lightweight avalanche shovel can be quickly adjusted.

The blade is made of 6061 T6 aluminium.

The practical switchover function makes it easy to switch from left handed to right handed.

Step grooves to stop your foot slipping when digging. A sharp, sturdy cutting edge guarantees optimum performance. High sidewalls and a pronounced centre ridge on the blade provide the necessary rigidity.

Thanks to notches in the material, the Pro Light is not only lighter but also suitable for building a rescue sledge or for use as a snow anchor.

Material Properties

Blade - AL 6061 T6 (hardened), anodized - The Strongest aluminium available – used in Ortovox high-end safety products for optimal balance between weight and ridgity.
Handle - 7075 T6 (hardened) For high-end products and majority of the shovel shafts, 7061 Aluminum T6 is used for its optimum weight-to-rigidity ratio.
