A replacement from the Barryvox Pulse, the Mammut Barryvox S offers an extensive range of features with excellent functionality. With easy display controls and multiple burial detailing, this transceiver is ideal for those who tour days and nights off-piste or within the backcountry. This beacon is top of the range and is used by a majority of guides and rescue services.
For a less advanced user-friendly transceiver, we also stock the standard Mammut Barryvox.
Mammut Barryvox S - How to use it
The Barryvox S has a 2.2-inch full graphic screen which gives a clear display of the search with a menu down the side. In normal search mode, it will display the distance, direction, and number of received signals.
The search, send, off switch is on the top of the unit and features an automatic lock preventing it from being changed from send by accident.
The flagging (marked) button is on the front of the device and is easy to operate with gloves on, it also serves as the enter button for the menu. On the side, there are 2 buttons which access and control the advanced features.
The Barryvox S transceiver has a notably large search range than other transceivers. The strip search is 70m metres in digital and 100 metres in analogue mode. A lot of transceivers in the market have a search width of 30-40 meters.
The Mammut Barryvox S can perform 5 different search options such as the following:
Signal search
Searching the surrounding area to the point where the first clearly audible signal can be detected.
Coarse search
Searching the area starting from the reception of the first signal until the immediate vicinity of the buried victim. In this phase, the signal search pattern is abandoned in order to follow the signals leading to the buried victim.
the Smart Search function which reduces the fine search by optimizing the final stages of the coarse search.
Fine search
Searching the area in the immediate vicinity of the victim.
the Pro Search has an on/off function which tells users to change their search strategy/pattern as the transceiver has detected other nearby signals which may be affecting the search.
The Rescue-Send Mode will go from sending to search and back again quickly this mode will be enabled. This stops the transceiver sending or receiving without switching it off. This allows a searcher to assist with a rescue without adding electronic noise to the search area.
In the case of a secondary avalanche, the transceiver will switch to send mode using the motion sensor.
The Barryvox S includes a reverse direction function which will direct you to make a 180° turn if you're consistently getting further from the target, an auto-revert which will automatically switch to send from search if there is no movement within 4 minutes.
If multiple burial victims are detected in search mode, an icon symbolizing multiple burials will be shown on the display. Once you have found the victim you are searching for you will be able to use the flagging (marked) function, this will allow you to mark where the victim is located and move onto the rest of the victims.
The detection of multiple burials may vary based on the victim's orientation and distance relative to the rescuer. We recommend turning off the transceivers of the excavated victims to facilitate
the further search.
If you don’t know the number of buried subjects, you must search the entire avalanche path using multiple search patterns.
List of buried victims this lists the transceivers being 'seen' by the device, it also allows marking and unmarking of each one.
The analogue mode offers a range of up to 100 metres which is not very common within the transceiver world. The analogue mode uses no digital process and simply gives the audio signals from the receiver, this will increase the receiving range.
You can personalise your transceiver with auto-revert, display and audio guidance.
Three AAA Alkaline batteries (Alkaline or Lithium) we recommend not using rechargeable batteries.
Batter Life, 300 hours in send mode.
Compatible with Lithium batteries which are more stable in low temperatures.
The BarryMount is a high-quality carrying system for your Mammut Barryvox transceiver. It is easy to carry and can be quickly adjusted and opened or closed using one hand.
The carrying system almost completely rules out activation of the search mode, increasing your safety in the terrain. It protects the device from mechanical damage, whether on tours or during transport.
At the end of the season, you can simply wash the carrying system in the machine at 30 degrees, Clean and ready to go.
